History
In 1977, the entire community mobilized behind the creation of the Kamouraska Museum. The museum then saw the light of day thanks to the perseverance and passion of our volunteers, as well as people and businesses in the community and region. The museum was given a mandate to preserve, enhance and disseminate the rich historical, ethnological and cultural treasures of the area.
In 1978, the Kamouraska Museum moved to its current location, the old Kamouraska convent, which dates back to 1851.
A major step was taken in 1989, when the museum received its accreditation from the Quebec Ministry of Culture. From the time it was founded, the Kamouraska Museum has relied on a devoted board of directors, which has dedicated years of effort to ensure the Museum’s long-term survival. The acquisition of official accreditation represented the consolidation of these efforts.
In 2005, the Museum, conscious that its role had an impact beyond the village of Kamouraska, changed its name to become the Kamouraska Regional Museum (Musée régional de Kamouraska).
Exhibitions
The exhibitions in the Kamouraska Regional Museum range from artifacts to the history of the village and the region. Through the accounts of the lives of the men and women who lived here, the interesting guided tours will show you the history and treasures of the past. Whether stories of businesses, traditional ways of life or sport in the good old days, history awaits you!
Boutique
The Kamouraska Regional Museum offers unique products brought from all over Quebec. However, the majority of our treasures are from our lovely Kamouraska region. There are many works of art: books, woven articles for the kitchen and bedroom, hats, clothing and decoration.
Located in the heart of Kamouraska, the boutique is found inside the museum, but no entry fee is required to come in and shop anytime.
